The WIS community is invited to use the subscription databases below. Click here for access to the passwords (requires WIS portal log-in; look for the link on the right under "Student Online Resources"). If you have trouble accessing one of the resources or its password or have a question about how to use a resource, don't hesitate to contact the library staff. We're here to help you!  Databases aimed at middle and upper school students are available from the Tregaron Library website.

SIRS Discoverer contains full-text newspaper and magazine articles selected for their age-appropriateness. Reading levels are assigned to each article. It also contains images, maps and over 500 nonfiction books.

ImageQuest

Britannica Image Quest is a vast collection of copyright-cleared photos and other images. Click the flag in the header to choose your language.

CultureGrams provides cultural information on over 200 countries, including videos and kids' perspectives. Also includes Canadian provinces and United States states.

Pebble Go
Perfect for Grades K - 3, PebbleGo features organized, accurate information on Animals, Biographies, Social Studies and Earth & Space. Spoken-word narration assists emerging readers.

Researching

Webpath Express is a search engine for student-appropriate websites reviewed by educators. Access it by logging in to the PS library catalog. Directions are in this tutorial and outlined below:

  1. Link to WIS's online catalog (http://wis.edu/library), Select "Primary School."
  2. Log in with your Library username and password OR log in with username: SaStudent , password: SaStudent.
  3. Click on "Catalog" tab at the top.
  4. On the left side, click on "Webpath Express."

NoodleTools provides guidance in the research process, keeps track of citations and notes, creates bibliographies, provides a collaborative workspace and helps student organize their research. Fifth graders log into NoodleTools through their WIS Google accounts.
